Modern vehicles contain hundreds of ECUs, sensors, infotainment systems and ADAS processors — all running on PCBs exposed to one of electronics' most hostile environments: vibration, temperature swings from −40°C to +120°C, humidity, engine fumes, and road splash. Automotive conformal coating is no longer optional — it is a design requirement. CONINS Acrylcoat SKR-70 is the trusted solution.

The Automotive Electronics Environment

  • 🌡️ Extreme temperature range — Arctic cold starts (−40°C) to engine bay heat (+120°C continuous)
  • 💧 Water and humidity exposure — rain ingress, car wash, condensation in sealed enclosures
  • 🔃 Constant mechanical vibration — engine, road surface and suspension fatigue solder joints
  • 💨 Exhaust gases and fuel vapours — chemical attack on unprotected copper traces
  • High-voltage circuits — EV battery management, ignition, HID lighting
  • 🧂 Road salt and de-icing chemicals — highly aggressive to PCB metals and finishes

Application Process for Automotive ECUs

1

Pre-Clean PCB

Clean automotive PCB with ELCLEAN E-Clean Spray. Automotive boards often have complex assemblies — use Elclean Liquid for thorough dip cleaning if needed.

2

Pre-Dry at 60°C

Pre-dry for 15–20 minutes. Automotive ECU boards can absorb moisture in assembly — thorough pre-drying is essential before SKR-70 application.

3

Selective Masking

Mask automotive connectors (Deutsch, Molex), high-current busbars, mounting holes, heat-sink contact areas and any press-fit connector zones.

4

Apply Acrylcoat SKR-70

Apply by dispenser (preferred for automotive production for precision control) or brush. SKR-70's viscosity (120–150s FC B4) is optimised for dispensing. Apply 2 coats for maximum automotive-grade protection.

5

Oven Cure

Cure at 80°C for 60 minutes minimum. For full automotive-grade performance, allow 7 days complete cure before thermal cycling or vibration testing.

🚗

EV Application Note: For EV battery management system (BMS) PCBs operating at high bus voltages (400V, 800V), Acrylcoat SKR-70's 25 kV/mm dielectric strength provides robust insulation. Always apply a minimum 2-coat process on BMS boards for maximum creepage distance protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do automotive PCBs need conformal coating?
Automotive PCBs face extreme combined stresses — temperature swings from −40°C to 120°C, humidity, engine vibration, exhaust gases and road salt. Without conformal coating, these conditions rapidly cause corrosion, solder joint fatigue, and dielectric failure leading to expensive recalls and warranty claims.
What is the dielectric strength of Acrylcoat SKR-70?
Acrylcoat SKR-70 achieves 25 kV/mm dielectric strength and CTI value of 600. This makes it excellent for high-voltage automotive electronics including EV battery management systems, HID lighting drivers and 48V mild-hybrid systems.
Does CONINS export automotive conformal coating to Germany?
Yes. CONINS exports Acrylcoat SKR-70 to automotive electronics manufacturers in Germany and across Europe. We provide complete documentation including TDS, MSDS and quality certificates. Contact response@pcbconformalcoating.net for export pricing.
Is SKR-70 suitable for Vietnam's Vinfast automotive electronics suppliers?
Yes. Acrylcoat SKR-70 is well-suited for Vietnam's growing automotive electronics sector including Vinfast suppliers. It provides automotive-grade protection against Vietnam's tropical humidity (80–95% RH) while meeting the electrical performance requirements of modern EV and ICE vehicle electronics.
